  • Do U have a clue as to why it got hot or U just figure to "Shotgun" it??? Well,...every engine needs Compression, Spark & Fuel. Miss any one & it won't run. So,... it's time to play "Sherlock" & get dirty. First, spray a LITTLE "Starting Fluid" into Intake & have somebody try to start it. If it runs then dies, U have a "Fuel Problem". No run, pull a "Spark Plug Wire" & while somebody cranks it hold it near a "Ground & see if many "Sparks" happen. No, U have an "Ignition Problem". This could be several things, rotor, cap, ignition module, pick up etc.. Yes leaves U with bad compression. Use a "Compression Tester" & record the results tested with all plugs out. If it got real Hot, this is a real possibility & could be expensive. More than this I cannot say as my "Crystal Ball" is foggy today & I can't even tell which "Engine" Ur working on??? John
  • Did the cooling fan quit working, is that the original problem, there is a box under the plastic cover above the fan called the IRCM integrated relay control module, that could be the problem if the cooling fans quit. Now you have a bigger problem, it got hot. If it's a 3.8 you are screwed, replace the motor.
  • make sure you routed the serpentine belt correctly. Also, remove the belt and make sure your new water pump is not seized. It's possible it's defective.
