The first thing needs to be what sort of "look" you want over all. Modern? Classic? Craftsman? French? Country? Seaside Cottage? Rustic? Shabby Chic? Then you build your room to either fully embrace that look or at least lean heavily towards it! Remember, you can COVER the couch with any number of pre-made covers...(Ikea has a nice affordable selection to at least go look at!) You can also recover the couch to meet your exact desired look! Unless you are going heavy towards a stiff formal design, don't just think in terms of "matching." Think more towards COMPLEMENTING your colors, and shapes. An interesting room is not cluttered, but it has enough going on that it causes the eye to move over the whole as an interesting and ideally COMFORTABLE space. Sometimes using opposite colors (depending upon the TONE of the color) will give you a nice visual "pop." When designing a room, we have to consider not just the actual color...but the TONE of the colors used and how they work together... Texture is also needed for consideration. The design of the HOUSE can also play a part. If your home is ultra modern...then you might want to go a bit more minimal with your colors and your displayed items. The colors you describe here, would easily lend them selves to a Beach Cottage look...but would that go with your tastes and the over all design concept of the house? Remember too...while the walls are currently off white...PAINT is about the least expensive cost you can contribute your hard earned money to changing...and you do not have to keep all the walls the same color...Sometimes...adding color to ONE or two walls can really bring out a deeper richness to a space, especially a large room! (Color can be light and airy, or darker, brighter...according to your taste!) I advise people to go with what they LOVE, create a space that makes you feel "Ahhhhh, I'm HOME!"

I want a modern look.. slip covers are expensive and I live in an apartment, therefore I am not allowed to paint! The wall color has to stay. I want a very modern, up-to-date look. I live with two guys so I can't have it very girly like I'd like to do. =) I'm just looking at like decorating accessories such as wall hangings and throw pillows and stuff for the table tops. The color of the couch is like a light navy blue color and the furniture is a light colored wood. I'd like to add some colors..just not sure what would look good with the blue. I'm not crazy about the couch but just have nothing else. Please help!!
