Why do stores (and other businesses) sell things just under a rounded dollar? For instance, a department store has a blender at $49.99. Why don't they just say $50? Does it make that much difference?

This started a while ago when the stores wanted to charge you 50 bucks but called it 49.99 so that the number doesnt look so big in your mind. The price starting with a 4 looks more appealing than the price starting with a 5. They try to play tricks with your mind basically, calling it something in the 40 dollar range when its really just 50 dollars. We arent smarter now, we are just more aware of the trick and round it up in our minds. I never thought it was a very good one at that, even as a kid I knew what they were trying to do.... not sure why it still continues today though??

Only a strategy to promote sales in large mart, it gives the customers a feeling that they have saved. sometimes such method seems work perfectly.
