My husband and I actually built our log home just the two of us and we're on to the finishing trim now, stairs and windows and floors, though I still have to tile the shower and install the glass panel. Our home came in a kit but that was just for the complete shell and inside walls. So it was up to us to find and buy all the inside things like cabinets, fixtures, electrical and plumbing. I don't think we could have done it without shopping on eBay. Just about all of our appliances and fixtures, faucets, lighting, bathtub, came from eBay and we got great deals. It is possible to things you couldn't imagine by being careful where you shop, DO research!!! and buy things ahead of when you'll need them, when you find them. Great wood floors can be just inexpensive wood boards from a lumber yard and you finish them yourself. Paint finishes are always inexpensive. Milled lumber ends are good for covering walls. Instead of wallpaper, try brown paper crumbled from the grocery store or paint the walls yourself. Use all over stencils. Paint the floors, too. Use twigs and branches for window treatments. There's just so much you can do.
