If kids suck their thumbs at an early age, are they more likely to bite their nails when they grow older?

I do not believe there is any correlation, as my husband sucked his thumb until he was 3, and he doesnt bite his nails, but I never sucked mine, yet I do. As well, my younger brother never sucked his and he doesn't.

There is no way to tell if thumb sucking will lead to nail biting - however - a bigger problem to consider is the fact that prolonged thumb sucking will warp the line of the top teeth and very possibly cause a curved over bite. Many parents now think it is better for a child to suck their thumb than to have a pacifier - but the fact still remains, when the child gets too old to have that habit - you can take away the pacifier...you can't take away the thumb!

I sucked my thumb up into my teens... I however; bite my nails all the time... On the other hand, I haven't warped the line of my top teeth or a curved over bite.

No that don't relate in any kind of way. Kids bite their nails when they are bored or just can't stand to have long nails. Tthey bite their nails by choice or sometimes it is done unknowingly.

Not necceseraly, children most likely bite their nails because they see other children doing it or if they have a crush and their crush does it it's most likely for them to do the same. Children even at an early age will do anything for attention anywhere.

There is absolutely no connection! I never sucked my thumb, yet I spent a couple of pre-teen years biting my nails. Well, actually it's more like I was chewing on the skin around my nails! I was glad when I learned to stop that ugly habit, before I became a teenager when it would have really been embarassing!

I sucked my thumb until 11. I don't bite my nails, never did, never had the desire. Although I do love to rip off skin from around my cuticles until they are bleeding but I tend to keep my filthy little digits out of my mouth.
