    Officially, it doesn't stand for anything: those two letters in that particular shape are a certifying mark by which the manufacturer or importer certified that it has been designed to meet EU standards. It is just a symbol, like the stylized UL of the US Underwriters Labs certification. Unofficially, of course it stands for Conformité Européenne.
