  • Ask them to go to the store to buy software for your old computer that you need for school, so they can learn the joys of "minimum requirements". Who knows? It just might work.
  • umm..... it's called get a job and buy it urself
  • Tell them you need a new one for College.
  • If your computer really is 15 years old, that would mean it was manufactured in 1991. The "standard" configuration for a computer in 1991 was a 386 machine with 64 MB of RAM and a 160 MB Hard drive. It probably had a 8600 baud modem, and most likely didn't have a network card. If it was a real high-end machine of the time, it might have been a 486 running at 33 megahertz, and have a full 128 MB RAM and a 360 MB hard drive. Either way, the operating system would have been 3.X, and may possibly have been upgraded to Win95 sometime in 1994 or 1995. The monitor is probably monotone rather than color, and has a native resolution of either 320 X 240, or if high-end, 640 X 480. With either of the configurations mentioned, I find it difficult to believe that you are using a machine like this on a daily basis, and accessing the web. However, if you really are, I would suggest that you stop spending so much time waiting for downloads, and get a job. You can buy a fully equipped PC today at Walmart for under $500.00. Even if the best you can do for a job is $6.00 per hour, you can be in your new PC within six months.
  • Duude, my parents would never buy me a new computer no matter how I try. Even when they told me to get a job and buy urself, even when i did that and had more than enough cash, they still didn't let me. It really depends on your parents. But really, try suckin up and talking through it, say something that New computer will improve your education and make it faster for the whole family in their research and blah blah. Try your luck.
  • How are you online with a 15 year old computer? Here is what I told my 17 year old: get a job and pay for it
  • Tell your parents that you think that it is not the computer model that i can use for the things i need to use it for and maybe you can earn some of the money too it is not good to rely everything on your parents but it could help and maybe just maybe you might get it for your birthday or christmas well good luck.
  • If your computer is running Windows 95 or 98, you may are taking chances if you are online. Those systems are no longer supported by Microsoft. There are no fixes for new viruses and threats that may enable hackers to get inside your computer and compromise your privacy. Your computer may get hijacked and used as a zombie to distribute junk mail like crazy. Tell your parents that your computer is no longer safe, that computers are cheap these days. If you are in School, your old computer can't keep up with new software that your may be required to master in order to be successful in School or College. Try telling them those true good reasons, they may surprise you!
  • You could always disable all the protection software and then go surfing. That ought to render it useless and beyond help in a couple of hours.
  • Get a job, start saving, buy yourself a computer. I started saving when I was 13. But then dad ended up buying the computer because he wanted the whole family to be able to use it (i.e. because it was his, not mine). Luckily, I was the only one interested in using it so I saved money. Later on, I saved for a better computer ($1000). When I got half way ($500), dad lent me the other half. I then paid him back his $500 at $10 per week for the following year. The first program I put on that computer was a record of how much money I owed dad. I did this over twenty years ago. You should be able to do it now.
