I'm not sure either. I'll get a definition for us. 'The branch of philosophy that studies the nature of knowledge, its presuppositions and foundations, and its extent and validity.' Information: http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?s=Epistemology&gwp=16

e·pis·te·mol·o·gy - Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[i-pis-tuh-mol-uh-jee] –noun a branch of philosophy that investigates the origin, nature, methods, and limits of human knowledge That explains why it's the only thing in the category. Not sure. But if this is the only question, I bet you are going to be the expert in this category :)

You got a definition, but a bit about only one question in the category. Often when you see either nothing or very few questions in a category, it may be that only a few are showing up but there are more in the system. They are in there but you can't see them. I've noticed that sometimes questions only hang around for so many years and them they don't show up at first glance. But you can search for them and make them come back to life by answering them.

...........Its a brand new "just added" category. As to "What is epistemology?" Epistemology is the study of the nature knowledge, especially as the factual information tends towards truth. Included in this science the theory of knowledge is; argument based on false premise. The saying "As the truth is known, the facts will be understood" is rooted deep in epistemology. Submitted: Ed
