I have just replaced the head on a 2.0 97 escort. I removed it because it was making a loud clicking sound. had the head rebuilt and when I put it on it still makes the same noise but not as heavy. how do I know if my cashaft or lifters was the problem?

Did U not run it with the "Rocker Arm Cover" off??? Just push down on the rocker arms one at a time to see if U have a "Loose" one. They are all "Adjustable" one way or another & if not "Collapsing" adjusting should fix the problem. The Camshaft gets a Visual Inspection of the "Lobes" for excessive wear. If no wear present, adjust the valves, check compression & run it again. No noise & compression is good (within 5Lbs. of each other) Ur good to go! If they don't adjust, it's time for new "Lifters" & maybe valve job. John -
