  • Because noone ever raised a stick or a stone without first verbally abusing the victim.
  • Because we prefer to concentrate on trivialities thus allowing ourselves the luxury of being distracted from the important things. There have been some horribly racist laws passed in the history of my country (Canada) dealing with the Chinese and the Natives but not one of those laws refered to the Chinese as slopes or dinks or the Natives a wagon-burners or red-skins. It is just easier to focus language because you don't have to do anything or think any deeper than, "That's a bad word! For shame!" and you can walk away feeling righteously vindicated in your own tolerance and enlightenment. It is a game of smoke and mirrors. I'd rather be saved by a guy that calls me "cracker" than slain by a guy that calls me caucasian.
