  • Let me explain. Let's say they come up with a single cure for cancer, but others came in and said we need to be tolerant of other treatments. You are going to fight with all your might to spread the one true cure. It's the same thing with (at least) Christians, Jesus said he was the only way to God all other are casted into the lake of fire. We believe we have the only cure, why should we do anything less than give our all to spread the cure? I see no irony at all.
  • Religion is not really about tolerance, it's about acceptance, which can be very different things. A religious group (I won't name any particulars) will gladly accept you if you show them that you have accepted their beliefs. Most of them will not tolerate you if you believe something else. I never understood why religious groups were always so competitive with each other, but it has been this way for many many years.
  • This is just my own theory based on years of observation - but I think it's because deep down they know that it's all a fairytale. They layer themselves in piety and The Word to hide from that little voice from deep down inside and, or course, they are the least tolerant toward those who do anything to remind them of that little voice. Just MHO. +5
  • They are the most intolerant because religion today is there to hide the light, rather than to give the light... so therefore, those who are proponents of it are the least tolerant. This will explain the real Gospel and the reason people try to hide the light. http://gospelenigma.com
  • That's easily judging people. Of course, those who need to CLAIM that they are religious or devout are bragging anyway. Admitting to a person is different, but having to claim such a thing . . . However, it is still a very general thing as there are MANY religious and devout people and many are VERY tolerant.
  • Maybe it's the loudly claiming that does it. There are many people that are very religious and unless it's in a different setting you wouldn't know it, but they could be the most devout or serious, more so than the loud claimants.
  • I don't know, I was raised a liberal Democrat atheist and lately I have become aware that if you aren't black, gay or feminist they can be pretty intolerant too.
  • They can't even see that they haven't followed the teachings of Christ for centuries. Irony is too subtle for them.
  • Well, strictly speaking, religion really isn't about tolerance. Religion is pretty soft now; those that are terribly intolerant are really just throwbacks to when religion was more concrete. So they kind of ARE the most religious and devout. Ironically.
  • It's past irony, it's full and utter hypocrisy and that is the cornerstone of religion 'do as I tell you and not as I do'
