I don't think so, in some cases. For example, I was very close to my youth leader and his wife. They were like surrogate parents to me throughout my teenage years. Though I cared for and respected them both, it was John, more than Diana, who I trusted with my worries and secrets. Some of us just need a mentor, and when there's no family member to take the role, another trusted adult will do.
