When I'm using my computer, occasionally over 20 new internet pages open up without my doing. Is this a virus?

    Sound's like Cool Web Search antics, but first go on your desktop and right click on Explorer and go to Properties> then click on Privacy, check the box at the bottom that say's Turn on Pop-Up Blocker, if you are using Firefox then click on Tools> click on Options> then click on Content, then check the box that said turn on Pop_Up Blocker. If those two doesn't do the trick you probably have a variant of the Cool Web Search Trojan. Spybot, or Ad-aware should take care of your problem.

    it could be, but it could also be that the popup blocker isn't on.

    No, doesn't sound like virus activity.
    Sounds like you don't have a pop up blocker activated and your surfing some sites that have pop ups on them.
