They hurt much much worse. Cutting your self and pouring ink into it may leave a permanent mark but it won't be what the person is looking for, plus you could poison yourself.

I have two home made Tattoos and they hurt for about a day or two afterwords, however if you can take a little pain it doesn't hurt. Yes, it will hurt more then getting it pro done.. because once you feel it hurting you can risk messing it up, then thats a serious problem becuase you risk having a shitty tattoo for your life and risk ink poising-- that is unlikely but still something you should be aware of when you get into something your not fully aware of.. so if you decide to give yourself a "self tattoo"-- HAVE SOMEONE ELSE DO IT for you and try it with out ink and if it hurts too much then DONT DO IT. but i somewhat agree with what everyone has written on this page just get it done right it will look and feel so much better if i could i would have

It will hurt way more. And the method you mention would leave a freakish dark scar, probably not recognizable as anything. Plus, there's be a very good chance infection would follow.

It will be extremely painful compared to how a tattoo feels. I also wouldn't trust putting ink in it because it could be toxic, and the cut will obviously also make the skin prone to infection. I have done this, but without ink.
