  • You went for 2011, I notice. I reckon that annihilation will not actually happen, but that the world will be decimated by the most virulent strain of MRSA ever seen (or some such 'nasty'). The rising tides and flooding will carry the disease, plus others, and the human population will be devastated. The world, however, will heal itself and continue along. Funny, really, because I just answered a scenario for another poster looking at war helping to wipe us off the face of the earth, but, hey, the future's not written in stone.
  • It already has. This is the aftermath.
  • "In an hour that you think not." This was spoken by Jesus to the church through the apostles, so ain't nobody gonna figger it out. When someone predicts the end of the world, he is sometimes after your money. That dude who wrote "88 Reasons Why the World will End in 1988" and then wrote an update in 1989 never apologized or refunded the money. Nor do false prophets ever own up to it. Jehovah's Witnesses have predicted the world's end many times--1873, 1914, 1925, 1975--but nowadays they simply deny that they ever did. (The average JW is simply ignorant and deceived by the organization's leaders in Brooklyn. Great free material about them at this site: http://www.mmoutreach.org/audio_jw.htm
  • Five, Four, Three, Two, One... NOW!
  • Whenever the following happens: 1) The Sun supernovas 2) Russia decides it's done with earth and blows it up 3) The polar ice caps melt 4) Aliens attack 5) The Earth's core stops moving 6) A huge ass meteor hits
  • The Mayan calendar, which happens to have predicted every major occurrence during our lifetimes, ends abrubtly on December 24, 2012... "Earth will end up in the sun, vaporizing and blending its material with that of the sun," said Iowa State University's Lee Anne Willson. "That part of the sun then blows away into space, so one might say Earth is cremated and the ashes are scattered into interstellar space." Willson and her colleague George Bowen studied other red giants, medium-sized stars like our sun that are near death, and used their findings to calculate the fate of Earth. As the sun burns its core of hydrogen, gravity will force a collapse. When compacted, the sun will heat up and burn the small amount of hydrogen that remains in a shell wrapped around the star's core. This will force the sun to expand into a red giant. Eventually, the core will heat up enough to burn stored helium and the sun will fluctuate in size before collapsing into a white dwarf. "Earth will get scorched as part of the process the sun will go through as it transforms from being a red giant into a white dwarf," Willson said.
  • http://www.ldolphin.org/twentyways.html just click and visit the above web.there are nearly 20 possibilities because of which the earth can end.
  • the world shall end in 2012!!! thanx to a stupid asteroid either that or in 2029 a black hole will come and eat us!! isn't that a nice thought?
  • the world ends when you die.
  • The world ends when the music stops.
  • Only God knows.
  • nobody knows for sure the hour in which jesus will come and the world would end, only God knows...it wi be at a time unexpected.
  • When the fat lady sings.......
  • The Earth will end, but I expect that the universe will continue to exist. The planets, comets, moons, suns, etc. come & go, but the larger system remains. And my ashes & the water from my body will continue to be a part of this system. Someone with insight said "matter cannot be created nor destroyed." It just changes form, so the world will exist in some form forever.
  • the mayans say it will be december 21, 2012. o well. whenever it is, i will be waiting. the only bad thing is that my deathclock says i will not die until 2078 or something like that, so that means, whatever happens to the world in 2012, i will stay alive.
  • On time I expect.
  • When no-one can get on AB! AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH! :-)
  • If you mean the planet, and not civilization then in 5 billion years time when the sun dies, expands and swallows up the Earth
  • In about six minutes... fancy a brew?
  • My dreams have been telling me not when, but how. If we do enter a black hole, it will take a very long time to pinpoint it. It will happen slowly. The outskirts of the black hole will cause everything from gravity to our blood to shift and we will have a slightly more difficult time moving. It will happen so slowly at first that few of us will notice it. Who knows? It could already be happening. If it were to it would take a long time, and it could be some other star and not just the nearest one like the sun.
  • Because no one knows when the world will end, you better start living like it will end today.
  • When we run out of fossil fuels which is said to be in the next 50-65 years. So in 2072.
  • I can only answer from a christian point of view. Christians believe that when God is ready, He will send Jesus back to earth in glory, to judge all people. Then a new heaven and a new earth will be created.
  • The world is never going to end.
  • When the sun explodes.
  • December 12, 2012. (Hey they were Mayan's were right about everything else, so why not?)
  • The sun will explode at some point he latest and most accurate estimate yet came recently and is in 5 billion years time. The earth will not get sucked in straight away and the initial stages (whereby the sun gets hotter and hotter) will take around 2 years to complete. When the final stage is reached it will happen very quickly in 6 months-1 year. After that, there will be no trace of Earth. What a wonderful thought for the day.
  • There is a bug in the Answerbag program that often won't allow me to reply to comments, so consider this an answer to two people who replied to me above. Thanks, idne, for the Blue Letter Bible link; and Engeltje, I don't think they have another end of the world on the table right now. Every time such a prophecy fails they lose about half their people, but their evangelism is so aggressive that they soon build back up. Yesterday for instance I visited a JW convocation in Ternopil, Ukraine. Over 2500 people were present, and it was a three-day convocation! Simple math indicates that there might already be 150,000 super-active JW's among the 48 million Ukrainians, and remember that it was an illegal religion until 1992. There might be three times that many in Russia, which would make the former Soviet Union alone a 10% increase to their numbers in just 15 years. It is very easy for a former Communist subject to become a JW, since the organizations are structurally very similar except that there is neither violence nor atheism. Both rewrite history, practice thought control, look for paradise on earth, have a Central Committee....

  • Apparently in 5 billion years time when the sun explodes. When the end comes, Earth will spend a couple of years waiting to be sucked in by the gravitational pull of the sun and then be completely gone in about 1 year or so. Hmm, best we find somewhere else to live.
  • Obviously the world will not end bc of a black hole. For a black hole to eat us up, would take about a hundred years. First it would start at the outer edge of our solar system. First pluto and it's moon disappear, then neptune, and etc. down the line. It would be kind of a cool way to go though. Being stretched into a thin cord and eaten up like a twisler.

  • Experts assessing the dangers posed to civilisation have added climate change to the prospect of nuclear annihilation as the greatest threats to humankind. As a result, the group has moved the minute hand on its famous "Doomsday Clock" two minutes closer to midnight. The concept timepiece, devised by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, now stands at five minutes to the hour. The clock was first featured by the magazine 60 years ago, shortly after the US dropped its A-bombs on Japan. Not since the darkest days of the Cold War has the Bulletin, which covers global security issues, felt the need to place the minute hand so close to midnight. Click here to see how the clock has changed 'Perilous choices' The decision to move it came after BAS directors and affiliated scientists held discussions to reassess the idea of doomsday and what posed the most grievous threats to civilisation. Growing global nuclear instability has led humanity to the brink of a "Second Nuclear Age," the group concluded, and the threat posed by climate change is second only to that posed by nuclear weapons. "When we think about what technologies besides nuclear weapons could produce such devastation to the planet, we quickly came to carbon-emitting technologies," said Kennette Benedict, executive director of the Chicago-based BAS. The announcement was made at simultaneous events held by the magazine in London and in Washington DC that included remarks from the English Astronomer Royal, Sir Martin Rees, and physicist Stephen Hawking. "Humankind's collective impacts on the biosphere, climate and oceans are unprecedented," said Sir Martin. "These environmentally driven threats - 'threats without enemies' - should loom as large in the political perspective as did the East/West political divide during the Cold War era." A number of alarming nuclear trends led to a statement by the Bulletin that "the world has not faced such perilous choices" since the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The worries include Iran's nuclear ambitions, North Korea's detonation of an atomic bomb, the presence of 26,000 launch-ready weapons by America and Russia, and the inability to secure and halt the international trafficking of nuclear materials such as highly enriched uranium and plutonium. Ice evidence The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, founded by former Manhattan Project physicists, has campaigned for nuclear disarmament since 1947. Its board periodically reviews issues of global security and challenges to humanity, not solely those posed by nuclear technology, although most have had a technological component. This is the first time it has included climate change as an explicit threat to the future of civilisation. A less immediate threat, but included in the assessment, is the one posed by emerging life science technologies, such as synthetic biology and genetic modification. While the harm done to the planet by carbon-emitting manufacturing technologies and automobiles was more gradual than a nuclear explosion, nonetheless, it could also be catastrophic to life as we know it and "irremediable", the board said. It cited in support the conclusions of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Its broad assessment is that the warming over the last few decades is attributable to human activities, and that its consequences are observable in such events as the melting of Arctic ice. In the years ahead, rising sea levels, heat waves, desertification, along with new disease outbreaks and wars over arable land and water, would mean climate change could bring widespread destruction, the board said. It also warned against the use of nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels. 'Optimistic' view While the technology had the potential to alleviate the climate warming effects of burning coal, its development raised the spectre that nuclear materials would be available for nefarious ends as well, the board argued. Some scientists - even climate scientists - may not support the comparison of global warming to the catastrophe that would follow a nuclear engagement. "Whether it's a threat of the same magnitude or slightly less or greater is beside the point," said Michael Oppenheimer, a geoscientist from Princeton University, US. "The important point is that this organisation, which for 60 years has been monitoring and warning us about the nuclear threat, now recognises climate change as a threat that deserves the same level of attention," he said. Both the nuclear menace and a runaway greenhouse effect were the result of technology whose control had slipped from humans' grasp, the BAS directors said. But it was also within our power to pull them back under control, they added. "We haven't figured out how to do that yet, but the potential is within our institutions and our imaginations," said Dr Benedict. Dr Oppenheimer agrees that people should not despair. After all, he said, for a long time the world took the nuclear threat seriously and reduced the numbers of weapons. "I'm optimistic that we can address climate change," he said. "We've dealt with such problems before, and we can do it again." Over the past 60 years, the Doomsday clock has now moved backwards and forwards 18 times. It advanced to two minutes before midnight - its closest proximity to doom - in 1953 after the United States and the Soviet Union detonated hydrogen bombs. Its keepers last moved the clock's hand in 2002 after the United States withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and amid alarm about the acquisition of nuclear weapons and materials by terrorists.
  • How about the December 21 2012 when the aztec calander ends
  • When a big ass comet comes hurling our way. We then can send Robert Duvall in an old space shuttle to destroy that sucker.
  • the sun will burn out in approx 5,000 yrs - i assume our Earth will cease to exist then
  • When it's damn good and ready.
  • when the sun turns into and swallows earth!!!
  • when the sun turns into a red giant and swallows earth!!!
  • You know, there are a lot of people saying 2012 and 2027. Soooo, uh......keep an eye out for that.
  • Now... no... NOW... The truth is no science can prove when Bush makes another crappy mistake and explodes the world :)
  • wut the girl on top said yes the sun will swallow the earth up!!!
  • the earth will end when the sun becomes a red giant. when that happens, the sun will swell up beyond earth's orbit meaning earth will end up in the sun so in other words the sun WILL swallow the earth. this is said to happen in like 4.5 billion years but my guess is it will happen in 8 years!!!
  • when the sun turns into a red giant and swallows it!!!
  • Only god knows the answer to that one.
  • Most likely, the world as we know it will end when Man finally does something stupid enough to make the world uninhabitable. With several countries possessing nuclear weapons, all it would take is one of those countries to set off a nuke and then like dominoes, everyone else would follow suit in a "nuke before you get nuked" frenzy that would likely result in Man managing to make his own species extinct. Those hotheaded people who are in favor of nuking the adversary off the planet fail to realize that Earth is a closed system. All must breathe the same air, drink the same water, etc, and the nuke that may destroy the adversary, also poisons the attacker and the rest of Mankind. What's scary is that there are nukes in the hands of countries with high levels of violent clashes over such things as power, religion, etc, and some of those countries have leaders that are determined to dominate and control as much as possible. Combine that lust for power with the hatred and resentment of others, add a hot temper, place the mixture in a position to be able to be in control of a nuke, and you have a recipe for disaster. I once read a wise statement that observed that Man is the only species that seems hellbent on genocide, self-annihilation, and destruction of the world that Man has to depend on to live. Only Man is stupid enough to do things that may possibly destroy the things Man needs for survival.
  • Any day now, and it will be by... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! IT'S HERE!
  • About 10 seconds after you pull my finger!
  • the mayan calendar says 2012. but only really god knows and good stuff like that.
  • 10 Seconds ... ...9 ...8...7...6...5 ... Are you ready? ... 4...3...2... GULP! ...1 ... Ohhhh ... Well, I guess I was wrong.
  • Yes. There are many ways in which it could end. Some of my favorites: * Randomly. * Sun explodes. * Giant space object collides with it. * Universe stops expanding and begins to contract. Everything compresses really tightly because of all the gravity. * Black hole. * Giant space monster.
  • Yes. We all die and our world ends. But let's not forget issues re pollution of air and water, nuclear waste, war.... but then there's the possibility of escape to other world....
  • Dude you so got that question from me.
  • Long after our own end.
  • Your gonna have to stop asking the same questions over and over, i flagged them for a reason....dont want to have to do it again and again
  • the worldwide production of ethanol.
  • Global Warming or World War 3, I see this happenin within the next 150 odd years
  • God doesn't know, either.
  • So why post a QUESTION on here then???
  • As an athiest, I can tell you the world will end when it's over.
  • Saturday, just after tea.
  • So why'd you ask? God doesn't use AB.
  • WTF? *strongly resisting the urge to negi-troll* *NOTE* this no longer makes sense, as the question I originally answered was marked Dupe. here's the original question: "When is the world gonna end? only god knows no one has the answer so dont answer it"
  • Tomorrow, it's always tomorrow!
  • Errrr... Why ask then? Besides setting God aside we have a fairly good idea that we have a good few billion years left. Then kaboom planet earth go bye-bye. Or at least it will resemble a piece of charcoal.
  • For each individual, when they die.
  • possibly tomorrow ill h ave to ask god first to be sure.
  • there was a tv show about the top 12 ways scientists think the earht will end two that I remember is a giant meteor thats sopossivly heading twoards eath and is expected to hit some time around 2032 and another one was 2014 because soposivly thas when the aztec calender ends and they thinik the aztecs pedicted 2014 to be the end of the world so its goin to be proven true or false in 7 more years
  • When the fat lady that sings, joins jenny craig and loses 75lbs. :)
  • Most likely in about 5 billion years when the Sun becomes a Red Giant. Although it could end tomorrow. A passing black hole for example although the chances are incredibly remote...
  • im scared i dnt wanna die cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
  • It will end on a thursday. I dont know how.
  • It'll start off very similar to the movie Independence Day. Only hitch is, the aliens will just blow us up. Damned dirty aliens.
  • The human race will end way before the earth will end, though one day the earth will loose it's orbit and the atmosphere will be gone. That is probably the demise of most planets that are dead today.
  • Isn't that a movie? Hell I don't know it could be tomorrow it could be 2020. It will end for us all at different times.
  • In about 5 billion years probably. Maybe before, there are al sorts of calamities that could occur but are very unlikely. But I very much doubt that the end of the Mayan calendar will mean the end of the planet earth. It has been around a lot longer than that particular calendar system :)
  • In a looooooong time. I'm a little too intelligent to listen to conspiracy theory's from a civilization that is now long dead.
  • When it wants to.
  • Never. It may end as we know it, but it will always be here.
  • It already has. We're experiencing the after shock.
  • The world will approximately end in the next three to four billion years when our Sun fizzles out and dies. The Sun at that time will become a red giant and consume the innermost planets and give Mars a good roasting. It will then collapse in on itself and the remaining planets will drift off into the unknowns of space. Mankind will more than likely never be around to witness this event.
  • No one knows the day nor the hour. So it's going to happen at some time that no one has predicted.
  • I prefer not to know
  • Yesterday!
  • I heard that it was going to be a week from next Tuesday.
  • No. Regardless of what anyone says..no one knows for sure. Supposition..educated guesses..there are plenty, but that's all they are.
  • It will be in the year of 2012 when the Mayan calendar ends. This calendar was so accurate that it could predict the position of the planets 100 years in advance. So keep your ear to the wind and eyes to the sky, and take cover when the times comes because all that we are is all that we were.
  • I believe only God knows. :)
  • Well, we can predict when the sun will die. It's up to you to decide if that signifies the end of the world.
  • About eight hours. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! :o)
  • The world ends on March 21, 2123. Really. It was on the News (unfortunately I forgot which channel).
  • Some say in about five million years our Sun will become too hot for the Earth to sustaine life any longer.
  • Barring the arrival of a Vogon construction fleet or a Borg cube, the sun will exhaust its fuel supply in about 5 billion years from now. When that happens, it will swell up to become a red giant, swallowing up all the inner planets in the process. Assuming that humanity colonizes other planets around other stars before this unfortunate event occurs, we will have another 60 billion years or so after that before entropy runs out and all matter decays to its constituent subatomic particles.
  • Judgement day my friend, all we can do is follow Jesus and wait.
  • THE DAY ANSWERBAG ENDS.
