It sounds like demodex to me but you should see a vet. It could also be hypothyroidism. Hard to say boxers have lots of skin problems. My boxer was stolen by my ex-wife and I can only hope she is taking good care of him.

Amitraz is a nasty chemical, you need to wear gloves, eye protection and breathing mask and only use outdoors. So you don't use it untill you are absolutely sure you have to. Get a diagnosis first.

I have a ten year old boxer whom nibbles and licks her skin a lot. This has been cured by having her anal glands frequently unblocked at the vets as well as applying her usual monthly stronghold. When the anal glands become blocked it causes a general irritation all over the body that makes the animal scratch themselves until they cause injury to the skin. Hope this helps you sort the problem.
