I would suggest Thailand, the Philippines maybe... But then again, you are a teacher, and there are some pretty good opportunities for teachers who are willing to live overseas. I do not mean in just the third world backwater places either, some teaching positions are available in the relatively modern and wealthy countries. Check out the PRIVATE teaching positions available in Bahrain, Kuwait, and the other "Oil Rich" Gulf Cooperation Council countries. They are always looking for English speaking teachers. Even in really neat places to live like Greece. Most of the "Experienced teacher wanted" announcements are seeking educators from the UK, and NOT the US. That is mostly because most Brits are a lot happier to live as "expats" and acclimate to other countries more easily. That does not mean that an educator from the US is not qualified for the job, just that most foreign employers are pretty well accostomed to hiring expats from the UK, and hardly ever are approached by US citizens looking for a job. Of course, there are MANY positions open in the dangerous and primitive places too. But you would not want to take your children to live in those sort of places.
