As im many other cases, I think it is harmful to try and force things into sharply divided boxes, There are always grey areas: Turkey is somewhat European and somewhat Middle-Eastern, If you put in the box marked "Europe", it looks out of place as the most as the most Middle-Eastern. If you put it in the box marked "Middle East", it stands out at the most European. It is, as its geograpgy suggests, a bit of both.
