Why can mannitol salt agar and EMB agar be described as both selective adn differential media?

mannitol salt agar is used to differientiate between salt tolerant and non salt tolerant bacteria so it is differiential media n it inhibits those bacteria which are not grow in salt so it is selective media EMB is differentials cause it inhibite gram +ve n only grown of gram-ve bacteria n it is also a selective bc in this media only enterococcus bacteria are grow.

EMB also by the dyes Eosin Y and Methylene blue. which tell fermentation of either lactose or sucrose. and no fermentor having colorless colonies. i dont think they use much MSA anymore
