Personally, no... I think the scientists would have figured that one out pretty easily by now. The bee populations are being affected in areas where there has been no genetic engineering, and this phenomenon has been noted as far back as 1896, well before any such engineering was even thought of. http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/node/1087

wouldn't GM crop not need chemicals in order grow just as well?

There is something about GMOs that animals can tell the difference. When offered grain or hay from GMO or regular feed, cows, horses, and pigs will ALWAYS choose the non-GMO stuff. How can they tell? There must be something there. But I don't know if bees wouldn't be just as sensitive, unless they don't have any choice and must gather from them. It could even be something about microwaves and such that combined with other things, is killing them. They really don't know yet. The mystery is that the bees disappear. They don't die in the hives.

It could bee, no pun intended! yes maybe there was. Anyway, my neighbor has an arsenal of cans, for honey bees, wasps, hornets, etc..She sprays her deck, yard, tables, flowers, everthing..It must have some bad effect on a bee that makes it back to the hive with poison all over him...I know I have to go inside when she sprays, it's so bad.. She'll use half a can on one bee, I'm serious. I don't know if chemically engineered crops would constitute the same kind of problem, But anything that changes what is the norm, is not good, in my opinion.

I am not sure about the genetically engineered crops but pesticides and chemicals to reduce disease in plants does affect bees. most people do not realize that approximately 1/3 of all produce is pollinated by bees.

I think it's pesticides
