True fasting is like Fight Club, if you do or if you are in, you don't talk about it. Fasting and talking about it is counterproductive, for you are doing it for Him and since it should be private, you are not supposed to tell others about it. Fasting isn't like some Jenny Craig commericial, in that you do it and lose weight and go run around in commericals and say, "Look what fasting did for me"!

No I don't but think it's a good idea for those who do.

About once per month, I go a little over 24 hours with no food, no drink, and no sleep ... it is part of a feast & famine / fire & ice type of cycle of training the body to have a wider extreme of tolerances and a higher overall endurance ... to achieve an overall better health & fitness.

once a year we have a month devoted to fasting where everyone fasts for someone they love, and they fast (full-fast, so only water, no juice no food) for at least a day for as long as they physically can/want. i generally fast for 5days but thats because im used to it.. and it happens sometimes that i forget to eat (but this isnt fasting for me) sometimes i dont eat for a day if my stomach doesnt feel well, tho this is also not "fasting" for me.. sometimes when i really want to see God work in my life in some super natural way for something, then i will commit myself to a fast so that i can show God how much i value that over my own desire to eat. (so this wouldnt be over any trivial matter, obviously) the bible says not to brag about your fasting when you are fasting, "as the hypocrites do". so its not so much about not telling anyone, as it is about not boasting of your "high-holiness" for your fasting. and you should also wash your face (so you dont look half-dead) and not push yourself beyond healthy limits (since that would be making God look like a bad master, when God doesnt demand this of us in the first place, ie, its not a requirement for anything, but He does work in incredible ways, greater than He does for just prayer alone).

Once a month I fast for 24 hours--no water or food. I take the value of the 2 meals that I skipped and donate that money to the poor. (I usually donate much more than the actual value of the meals, anywhere from $30-$80). I open and close my fast with prayer, and try to meditate and focus on spiritual matters during the fast. I also will fast, in addition to my monthly fast, if I am in need of spiritual help from God, or if someone I care about is in need of that help.

Yes. The Catholic Church follows the Biblical practice of Jesus Christ and the Jews in setting aside days where the entire Church fasts and prays as one in a attitude of constant renewal. The Days of Penance are described in the Code of Canon Law (1249-1253): Divine law binds all the Christian faithful to do penance each in his or her own way. In order for all to be united among themselves by some common observance of penance, however, penitential days are prescribed on which the Christian faithful devote themselves in a special way to prayer, perform works of piety and charity, and deny themselves by fulfilling their own obligations more faithfully and especially by observing fast and abstinence. The penitential times are every Friday and the season of Lent. Abstinence from meat is to be observed on all Fridays. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In the United States of America, the bishops, with the permission of the Pope, for Catholics to substitute a penitential Practice or even a charitable practice of their own choosing on the Fridays outside of Lent. Many U.S. Catholics just continue to abstain from meat on all Fridays of the year. http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/__P4O.HTM http://www.usccb.org/lent/2007/Penance_and_Abstinence.pdf With love in Christ.

Yes. Once a month I try to go without food or water for 24 hours or two meals and the money that I would have spent on those meals I give to my church leader who then distributes the funds to needy people in my area. I feel at peace and happy when I fast and I believe I am helping others with my donations. I like that it teaches me self control and helps me to get closer to the spiritual while denying the carnal.
