Well, apart from the euphoria effect (which I presume you are not considering to be a "side effect"), you should be aware of (other) side effects from cannabis use including increased heart rate, dryness of the mouth, reddening of the eyes (congestion of the conjunctival blood vessels), a reduction in intra-ocular pressure (which is a good thing if you happen to have glaucoma), mild impairment of motor skills and concentration, and increased hunger. You should also be aware of definite, proven negative effects on short-term memory, though as the THC is metabolized your short-term memory abilities will return to their former strength. While many studies have shown a *correlation* between marijuana and increased incidence of mental illness (anxiety and depression being most common, but schizophrenia being the one making the news most often), *correlation* is *not the same* as *causation*, and studies have also shown that the mentally ill are more likely to "self-medicate" with drugs, including alcohol and marijuana, than the general population. Also, it should be noted that while many marijuana users will not experience physiological addiction, animal research has found that it is possible to become physiologically addicted to marijuana, with withdrawal symptoms similar to that of tobacco addiction. Heavy users experience withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, restlessness, loss of appetite, depression, irritability, and anger after ceasing use. Marijuana smoke does contain carcinogens, and the smoke is held in the lungs longer than with tobacco smoke, so cancer is a possible long-term side effect of marijuana smoking. Many of the carcinogens are water-soluble, whereas THC is fat-soluble and passes right through water, so the traditional water pipe or "bong" does remove some of the carcinogens in marijuana smoke. A common misconception is that cold water in a bong "cools" the smoke and makes it easier to breathe: what actually happens is that water vapor is added to the smoke as it passes through the water, soothing the throat and lungs. This means that hot water is actually better than cold water for use in bongs, because the hot water adds more water vapor to the smoke. Obviously eating marijuana, such as in marijuana brownies, bypasses the inhaled carcinogen risk entirely. Traditional medicinal uses of marijuana are for conditions often including nausea symptoms, which make eating marijuana more difficult.

Whoa, This first answer I have to disagree with a bit. Psychological withdrawal sure, could happen. Even with Coffee and sugar. Having Sever anxiety and being a smoker who cant quit for love or money, literally, it is the hardest thing I have ever tried to stop. Still cant. Marijuana had zero of the symptoms the top post mentions when I quit -- and if anyone would get those symptoms -- it would be me. Cigs are physically addicting. I don't care what anyone says. The chemicals they put in them effect your nervous system. They are simply a delivery device. Pot can be psychologically addicting, but its FAR more safer than drinking, which is both physically and psychologically addicting, the withdrawals of heavy abuse and addiction are so severe they can lead to permanent damage, hospitalization etc. Yet its legal and on every corner for sale. Pot is legal in California for medical use. So, what exact studies did these mice get addicted to pot? Who funded them? Were they triple blind studies. for every study you could throw at us, I can throw one back. Were they used for political reasons? I am not advocating use. But if we lie, or even stray from what is true or we are not sure of, children see right through it. I think marijuana should be used by adults. I know people who have stopped drinking using marijuana, getting there lives back. I am not saying its for everyone. Its clearly not. ANYTHING can be addictive or abused. But if you going to cite studies, back em up and tell us who funded them, who did them and why. Peace t

a top side effect of marijuana can be anxiety attacks or panic attacks depending on the amount that you have consumed.

Have had the odd toke from time to time and never had much trouble. BUT the other night was an exception. Baring in mind that I had also had a lot of alchohol and it was like 6am. The party was dying down and all of a sudden I became convinced (because earlier id watched a movie on it) that i'd lived in japan and been part of a gov conspiracy! (I've lived in scotland my whole life haha!) I swear it was so embaracing, was crying and telling these like 5 people all about it, my cousin had to take me home. Has never happened before so im assuming it only happened because I'd drank so much alcohal with it but it has kinda made me think tbh. Don't think I will quit smoking it like but I'll certainly not be combining it with so much booze in future times csuse who knows what could happen-might watch superman before I leave the house and wind up thinking I can fly or something! Screwed up lol.
