  • A running fastball is usually thrown as a 2 seam fastball. The angle of the arm slot when you throw it determines exactly how much it "runs". For instance, if i throw a 2 seam straight over my head it won't move much, but if I throw it down sidearmed, it will tail quite a bit, or run as it's termed in baseball. That pitch is actually becoming more and more common today as it is a harder pitch to hit. Another way to throw a running fastball is pressure points. I played two years of college baseball where I actually did pitch. If I held a 2 seam fastball and put more pressure on my bird finger, I could make the baseball dive as it went towards the plate. If i put more pressure on my index finger, I was able to make the ball run. Mixing up between these two is a great way to get hitters off balance and get lots of ground outs and pop ups.
