Whip out a billy club and start swinging it wildly. That should get their attention.

Take a seat at the back of the classroom. The students would soon focus all their attention on me and quiet down, because it would be out of the ordinary, and a departure from how teachers typically attempt to assume control.

i would feel like i was back in school and start screwing around too. a sub is still a sub and they are only there for attendance

Good question. It is hard for a sub. I've been there. Here is what you do. Ask who wants to arm wrestle? As soon as you beat a couple of them, they'll settle down.

I would unbutton my second button on my shirt..and say "don't let me knock your "butts" of with these..now sit down and take a seat..I am the "poop" here:) Now turn of your "freakin" mouths and turn on the brain..and boys not that one!!!!!!

i agree, do something completely out of the ordinary, it always gets my class's attention. however i would avoid doing anything uninteresting...especially high schoolers want to be entertained but if you sit in the back of the classroom quietly they can easily choose to ignore you completely and come across as lazy to other teachers and staff. - it definately depends on what kind of person you are because one person can come across as interesting to a high school class but another, saying and doing the exact same thing can come across as "loser" and the class will take advantage of you. you have to try different things.

First, I would accidentally slam the door. Then I would walk over to the blackboard and write my name, Miss Sugar-licious. Then I would ask everyone to write down their favorite song on a slip of a paper explaining that it has to meet the school rules of no profanity. All slips of paper get dropped in a container, hopefully I can find something really funny to use for the container. Whatever song gets pulled will be used in the lessons. I'll work it in some way. If we finish in time we can do something fun with the rest of the songs.
