Bananas are one possible part of the diet of chimpanzees from a menu that is varied and diverse. The assumption that they are more prone to bananas over other foods in their natural diet is probably a Hollywood-created myth.

They don't. Liking bananas is a stereotype attributed to monkeys and apes, I'm not too sure how it came to be. Bananas are from southern Asian, so it would be unlikely for a chimpanzee to find any in Africa.
