  • Well, it was supposed to be a secret CIA prison camp...Cuba is not a place many U.S. enemies expect to find a prison...well, it was secret until Bush...
  • The prison is on the USA base at Guantanamo. The USA has had a lease on property there since 1903 and has used it for many purposes over the years. For a very good history of the base, see this other Answerbag question and answer: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/21291 --- If the link doesn't work (it did for me when I tried it), just search Answerbag for 'Guantanamo'; it will be the first question in the results list.
  • First- the United States govenment did not make that a prison camp- only President Bush, which is why the rest of the United States government is forcing Bush to release the prisioners or put them in regular US prisons. Bush put those people there because US law forbids what he did- the jailing of anybody without representation, torture, etc. The US has a lease- after taking over Cuba by force, killing many.
  • Well I think it is used primarily today for "extracting" useful information from detainees without the jurisdiction of US Laws that would apply if the "extraction" was performed in the US Its hard to say if this is a good idea because BUSH has proved so untrusting
  • It's easier to get away with stuff on foreign soil.
  • Pure deviousness. The Bush Administration believes that US law does not apply on that base, so that it does not have to give the prisoners the rights that they would have if they were in the US proper. They can therefore treat them worse than they can treat people "at home". I think that this is spurious. Guantanamo Bay is not a combat zone, where things get a bit different. So therefore either US law applies, because the US is the de facto ruling power, or Cuban law applies, because the soil is Cuban even if leased to the US. Either way, the conduct of Guanatanamo is in breach of law and natural justice.
  • This is (one of) the reasons I so hate America. The brass-hats think they can get away with it, and they can't. It's a big deal over here as there are several British citizens (innocently) locked up over there, and our Government won't do anthing abnout it. And the CIA also use U.K. airports to transport people. it just sickens me. Hopefully the new government will sort it out. I know I would.
  • Location Location Location!!!
  • So that we can beat the crap out of them ngsob's for cutting the heads off of innocent citizens!! Go ahead, bring them to the U.S. who do you think is going to pay ALL the legal attorney fees, after they get here? You can't send them back where they came from, nobody wants them back. The lawyers will be lined up waiting to escout them to waiting limo's. I guess we can just let them loose on our streets, stealing, raping, and murdering more of our citizens..
