  • Because the only place they can get the info is if the webmaster of the found pages either posts or embeds the modification date into their page. It wouldn't necessarily be reliable anyway, since there is no way of knowing if the date entered on the page is correct to begin with. The computer the page was designed on may not have it's clock correctly set to the date. More likely, though, it's simply the fact that most webmasters just don't bother putting it there in the first place. The only way to fix that problem is to pass a law mandating page dating, but then how do you enforce it? The best way to ID outdated info is to keep searching for info that is dated. I'm afraid that's just how it is for now.
