Seeing as fear of Bill seems to have been what kept a lot of superdelegates from endorsing Obama earlier, he was certainly a quite valuable asset. (I still like the guy.)

Liability-Many Americans felt unease as Bill Clinton campaigned for his wife. Suddenly he became the centre of attention with outrageous comments, comparisons and tactics to diminish Barack Obama's Primary victories. These subtle racist hints, words and attitudes alienated many black supporters, even natural Hillary supporters, black women. To many of us, he became the main issue in Mrs. Clinton's campaign, a meddling, loose cannon seeking a back door to the White House. I do not think that Americans wanted to give "Slick Willy" a third term. He essentially torpedoed Hillary's nomination chances.
