Every 4 years we go through the same old ritual of voting and electing candidates who promises to fix our problems, and yet those problems are further perpetuated. What should we do? What can be done?

Change the Constitution. And that's not easy. More wide spread local activism to educate the public on the issues in an unbiased manner and encourage citizens to register to vote and actively participate in our political process. We are the luckiest nation in the world and we take our advantages for granted. We have become a politically lazy nation. Until you can change THAT, you stand no chance at impacting who runs and how candidates campaign and how they perform in office.

There isn't a hell of a lot you can do. Move to a commonwealth country? Move to a communist country? (just in case you are worried about the term, 'communist' is just a method of government) Or at least a socialist country? Either that or you could have another civil war, I hear you americans have a tendency to do that kinda thing :P
