It seems as though The Assemblies of God consider themselves a Fellowship and not a denomination, could someone help me understand the difference?

My understanding of the Assemblies of God is that they are a denomination unto themselves, they are Pentecostal in belief. I have attended two different Assembly churches. I know that most churches (fundamental Christian) consider themselves a "fellowship", like a group of fellow believers that have fellowship as a group? does that make any sense. hope it helped some.
