  • Generally speaking all mail goes to a central sorting city for processing. For example 73101 zip code. All mail with the prefix 731.. would go to the hub for processing. the mail would be separated by zip code and then separated by street addresses for efficient delivery my mail carriers. Some smaller post offices have separate bins for local mail and outgoing mail. they would cancel their own mail and redistribute it within their own building. If you were to put a local box address in the outgoing mail bin, then it would circulate through the system and might take two or three days for its return.
