  • Let them thaw in the fridge. Leaving them out on the counter will only make them rot as well as thaw. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but one other reason to thaw in the fridge is that fruit flies lay eggs on the surface of fruits and vegetables (even fruit/veggies which haven't turned ripe yet). Keeping the fruits and veggies cold keeps the eggs from hatching, but if you take the produce out the eggs will hatch onto already-frost-damaged produce, and I shouldn't need to say any more. If you'd like to get rid of the eggs, a good fruit/veggie spray is 1 Tbsp lemon juice, 1 Tbsp baking soda, and 1 cup water. Spray this on your veggies, scrub with a soft brush, and rinse.
  • I would leave them in the fridge...the vegetables that you froze may have broken down into a pile of mush by the time they thaw out..but often you can use this is stews, etc...anything long cooking that tends to break down fiber anyway:)..If you leave them on the counter they will warm up on the outside long before the inside and while they are thawing in in the middle you could have a perfect bacterial breeding ground on the outside.
