  • The photovoltaic effect indicates that light consists of discrete packets of energy (photons). If light were just a wave, then a bright red light should be able to produce the same electrical current as a dimmer blue light. However, the individual photons of the red light lack sufficient energy to create an electric current whereas the higher energy blue photons do have enough energy to do so. (This is the work for which Albert Einstein received the Nobel Prize in physics.) BTW, this does not prove the particle nature of light. It supports the idea of the particle nature of light. Science doesn't prove anything.
