  • A user on Wikipedia can go as far as to add an entire article, or to add a section to an article, or to simply correct a spelling mistake. It's all done by the users. It doesn't have to be researched. You can pretty much just put whatever you want there. However, if you do, someone will eventually come along and either fix it or add something that says the article is unsourced or is not written in a way that Wikipedia articles should be (like, stating opinions facts and things like that). A more obscure article will take longer to fix, of course.
  • Users submit information, it's moderated, has to be backed by sources, and can from then on be edited by other users (again allowing for moderation and sources). By the end of the process a fairly complete and reliable article is created, which can still be edited as new developments occur
