The fundamental American values have eroded over the years, mainly due to the efforts of the liberals whose goal is to destroy the moral fiber of American youth. A trashy culture yields trashy children.

Bad parenting, gang influence and the need to be noticed. Some parents are "absent" and for whatever reason don't guide their children as they grow up, so the kids are left on their own to figure things out. There are some areas where gangs rule and I think kids feel they have to go along to get along. Then there are those who are desperate to stand out of the crowd and "be somebody", and I guess it doesn't matter what they are noticed for, as long as people pay attention to them.
