In order to help out the east india tea company, Britain was like hey you dirty americans can only buy tea from the east india tea company, and then ahhh ummm hang on. Uhhhh. The british found they could help out with the bail out of the east india tea company. during the time period british tea was favored by the american colonists. so the east india trading company ships would bring in british tea and cut Pennsylvania shippers in tea imports, but in doing this part of the deal was they would cut the tea tax in the colonies, however in protest of lowering the tax the sons of liberty shot themselves in the foot, showing they didnt care they were getting tea cheaper, they said screw you to for doing that to them. - Bud Greenly

In order to help the East India company, the British told the colonists they had to buy their tea, but it was also subsidised, so was cheaper than American smugglers were charging. Therefore smugglers like John Hancock, really wouldn't have liked to be undercut like that. Greed was the reason, colonial criminal greed and propaganda.
