    Well, the "superstitions" surrounding the cycles of the moon predate our calendar by thousands of years. The necessity of the leap year is due to the calendar we subscribe to, which while it references the moon (month=moonth), it doesn't have any functional correlation to it. For this reason, any legend surrounding the two things would be a relatively modern invention and wouldn't be much of a 'legend'.
