From my personal experience, you can't "peel" a pineapple... The outer shell/skin is too much of a part of the fruit as opposed to something like a banana that can be peeled very easily. I've always cut the shell off of a pineapple with a very sharp knife, and to get as much of the fruit as possible, filet off pieces that are still stuck to it. you will also have to cut out the "core" of the fruit, since that isn't really a desirable part of it either. Sometimes to avoid the hassle I'll buy whole pre-peeled and pre-cored pineapples from the produce section of the grocery store... they have some sort of machine that does it all in one swoop.

You cut off the top end and the bottom end of the pineapple. With the pineapple standing up vertically, cut the rhine off the outside cutting downwards. Once the rhine is removed you can slice downwards around the core until you have the long strips by themselves. Throw the core and the rhines away. Make sure you have the needles and circular pitts taken out. I cut my lips too many times on those and they bleed and burn. I like to cut my pineapple into chunks. Sometimes the pineapple will come with a tag that has the cutting directions on it. Otherwise you can go to this link. http://www.howtocutapineapple.com/

THERE'S A TOOL YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET FROM SAFEWAY GROCERY STORE, ITS PLASTIC AND FAIRLY CHEAP, BUT ITS PERFECT FOR PINEAPPLE. STORES THAT SELL PINEAPPLES SHOULD HAVE THE PLASTIC TOOL.
