It seems the soap and water would run down there anyways but to answer your question yes it is better hygienic care.

i certainly don't forget my anus. i give it a good squirt with the shower nozzle and soap it up. i have IBS and know that it needs extra attention to be clean

Don't know about other households or bodies, but as long as I can reach and have my faculties, I'm washing everything!
