Those substances are powerful anti-oxidants, but they don't really have a lot to do with getting diabetes. To be brutally honest, genetics is the largest factor, so if it runs in your family, you might be screwed. However, doing these three things will certainly help to prevent it or at least slow the onset: 1. Lose all belly fat, in type 2 diabetes, being overweight, especially in the tummy area, increases your risk. 2. Don't drink alcohol or soda. The more empty calories (or nutritionally devoid carbs) you consume, the more insulin your pancreas has to waste breaking down crap like that. Go easy on the simple sugars and stick with water or tea to drink. 3. Exercise. Not only with this help you with #1, but it might slow the onset of diabetes in its own right, too. Swimming is probably the best. Basically, go over-board with being healthy. If nothing else, it will prepare you for when you do develop the disease, as your whole life will change somewhat.
