  • I would consider it unlikely that the dam is directly responsible for this earthquake. The lake and reservoir are hundreds of miles away from the area where the quake occurred. So, I doubt that the two are connected. Additionally, we would really not be able to say at this point that they are connected in any event. It could be that the quake would have happened even if the dam had not been built. It would take an extended period of time monitoring the seismic activity of the region to determine if there really is a change in the frequency of quakes there. One quake, even one such as this, does not prove anything in an area as seismically active area that one is.
