Do commentators really know what pitch was just thrown, or are they just guessing?

no they are NOT guessing. whats goin on is, there is a camera thats ALWAYS focused on the catcher. when the catcher gives the pitcher his signals on what type of pitch to throw, the announcers see it and thats how they know what pitch is thrown.
