a rain storm only has rain a thunderstorm and a lightening storm are the same thing as you cant have one without the other also it is possible for thunder and lightening with no rain just clouds but this is quite rare, like rain with no clouds and hot sun

Essentially the same thing. Whether the rain storm also happens to be called a thunder storm or a lightning storm just depends on whether you hear any thunder or see any lightning. A rain storm can develop into a lightning storm and then die away to a rain storm again.

A lighting storm and a thunder storm are basically the same thing, sort of like candied yams and sweet 'taters. In order to get thunder, you must have lightning, no lightning-no thunder, and no thunder-because of no lightning. In a lightning/thunder storm, the sky is real dark and cloudy, in a rain storm the sky may be gray and bleak, or the sun evening trying to shine. Thunder is the sound made by lightning. Depending on the nature of the lightning and distance of the listener, it can range from a sharp, loud crack to a long, low rumble. The sudden increase in pressure and temperature from lightning produces rapid expansion of the air surrounding and within a bolt of lightning. In turn, this expansion of air creates a sonic shock wave which produces the sound of thunder. A rain storm is just rain without the light and sound show. You can grab a bar of soap and go out and take a shower in a rain storm, but you don't want to do it in a thunder/lightning storm. Noooooo, that's not a bright idea.

No, they can be different though at times they are all the same. You can't have thunder without lightning But you can have lightning without rain and rain without lightning.
