Yes. Each type of food (there are only three: protein, fat, and carbohydrate) have a certain amount of calories. Proteins and carbohydrates give you four calories per gram, and fats give you nine. A great book to check out that will give you food counts for almost every imaginable food is Corinne T. Netzer's Complete Book of Food Counts. It outlines carbs, proteins, fats, and calories for home-made dishes as well as most major fast-food and restaurant chains.

A calorie is the measure of energy in the fuel, while a carbohydrate is one form of that fuel. So when you are burning a carbohydrate, you are burning calories.
