Sejong did not create hangul himself. During his reign he instructed the Hall of Worthies (Jiphyeonjeon, in Korean:ì§‘í˜„ì „)to do the work. They were a team of scholars, he was a king. The situation was much akin to the English King James instructing a team of people to translate the Bible -- King James didn't do the work, his subjects did. Korean was not invented from Chinese. Korean script was created from scratch. Chinese characters had been used for lack of an indigenous script in Korea but the spoken language was indigenous.
