no not in the slightest. whatever gave you such an idea? it's "gal' as in 'pal' and 'val'. It maybe that you have heard someone with a regional accent, though, with certainly affects vowel pronunciation. In the souterhn accent - and 'official' accent of the UK (Queen's English, Modern Standard English...often labelled snob version of the language) that 'A' stays short. Although NOT like 'fall' and 'call' which in Brit (southern) English is one of those sounds that makes American laugh uncontrollably while providing uesless imitations. ("Forl" and "Corl")
