Until you are an adult, your parents are the boss. The age of consent law only deals with the culpability of others.

If you live in Indiana and as a 17 year old you are physically active with a 22 year old. He is committing a sex crime and could have his name and address on the internet as a sex predator if he gets caught. *I was informed that this answer was inaccurate. While I don't condone a 20 year old taking advantage of a 17 year old, it is legal for them to enter into a physical relationship.

Your parents consent is not required. So in short the answer is no, dating a 20 year old when you are 17 is not a crime. Even if you are having sex, it is still not a crime as the age of consent in Indiana for sexual acts is 16. (IC 35-42-4-9) Thats not to say your parents can't forbid you from seeing this person, or obtain a restraining order against him/her to prevent them from seeing you. The best option would be to inform your parents of your decision, or simply wait until you are 18 and are legally an adult.

Legally, yes... but why would you want to be in a relationship you have to hide?

It is not a crime to disobey your parents, but you also do not have any legally right to date a person. Thus, if your parents want to lock you in the house until your eighteenth birthday in order to stop you, that is their right.

You can date whomever you like. I'm not sure you're allowed to have sex - with or without consent of your parents.
