Intelectual compatibility is good, it might indicate both members of a couple share similar interests and ideas and makes everyday conversation less of a struggle and more of a habit and pleasure. I would also include compatibility of character and personality. Acceptance and communication is key when those last two seem to be very different. The physical aspect (sex) shouldn't be discounted either.

I agree with you. Intellectual compatibility implies similarities of interest and attitude. Where there is a parity between two people there will be a harmony of understanding. With a noticeable disparity one partner will be disadvantaged, maybe dependant and possibly resentful. But with intellectual connection sex can become a sublime expression of connection and the psyche is truly involved and fed. Where there is only pure intellect the relationship can become arid. Where there is only sex the psyche will suffer emptiness. With the combination the whole person will thrive and be joyful.
