Why do intellegent, educated people insist on denying the existence, or huge likelihood of, U.F.O.s?

Probably because they're intelligent, educated people that understand that the likelyhood of any other civilization have the technology to fly millions of light years to our dinky planet is pretty slim.

I think that they deny outwardly and accept the existence of UFO's inwardly.I think if there was a pole taken with people offering truthful answers regardless of ridicule would be close to 100%.

Because of physics. The nearest star system is 4 light-years away. And the nearest planet that could support life is significantly farther away then that. As an object of mass approaches light speed, mass becomes infinite. Therefore it would take infinite thrust to maintain speed just under light speed, so it is impossible to travel at light speed. So to even reach the nearest star, it would take more than 4 years, bare minimum. Maybe there is other life out there, but we'll never meet them. UFO's are in the same wishful thinking category as mermaids and vampires. Stop believing everything you see on Star Trek.

i believe there is life out there, but your talking about UFO's... which means they were here on earth at some point. which is not at all likely. (i would say impossible, but thats not true - BUT having super powers like lazers from your eyes isn't impossible either)
