  • yes my dear,it's right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • It probably does help keep your mental abilities in shape... much like working out keeps your muscles in shape. If you have a brain that you "work-out" often, then tasks such as remembering things will be easier.
  • I don't know so much about memory, but I believe it definitely hones your deductive reasoning and strategy skills. I think if you play enough chess you can start to look at many other life situations in the same manner. When engaged in discourse you can see what your opponent means to do and pick apart his argument much like you would his defense in chess.
  • I dont know about memory, but it definitly helps your logic of thinking.
  • I've played chess for 8 years. No, nine years. No, seven. Wait, I can't remember how many! I have played chess since I was in 4th grade and I don't have a very good memory. Luckily I am very good at making things up and I'm creative so that doesn't really hurt me. Chess has taught me to think with logic and to be more creative. It has taught me patience. It hasn't, however, improved my memory.
  • Not if you play it stoned like I do, but it's more enjoyable that way I think.
  • It never helped my memory. While some players master the game by memorizing every documented game played since before the discovery of fire, I always evaluated the current situation based on both board position and the psychology of my opponent. In fact, I typically did better against the memorizers than against fellow logicians as I tend ed to do unexpected and illogical things to memorizers merely to rattle them and make them make a fatal error. After a few years, I got to be a decent tactician and fairly good at evaluating the cost/benefit ratio of sacrificing certain pieces (an unfortunate necessity at times). However my memory never improved.
  • They advise old peopel to play chess, do corssowrd puzzels, soduko etc. It is beleived that all these things will help against brain disorcers like Alzheimers etc. Basically we need ot keep the brain active. Whether that means it improves memory - I dont know. Im a reasonable chess player that palys a great deal of chess but I have a poor memory. One person does not prove or disprove a theory though. So pass
